Urge your Senators and Representative to Protect LGBTQ Americans With the Equality Act.
This comprehensive federal LGBTQ civil rights bill would provide essential, critical protections by amending the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal laws to have LGBTQ people treated the same as every other protected class of people under federal law, while also strengthening the law for all who are currently protected. People who are LGBTQ currently lack comprehensive equal protections under federal law regarding employment, public services and spaces, public education, fair housing, credit, and access to jury service.
Find and reach your federal legislators, your two Senators and one Representative, and consider using this suggested PFLAG message:
As your constituent and as a member of PFLAG, I urge you to cosponsor the Equality Act introduced in the House as H.R. 3185 by Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI-01) and in the Senate as S. 1858 by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) on July 23, 2015. This bill would have LGBTQ people treated the same as every other protected class of people under federal law, while strengthening the law for all who are currently protected. PFLAG’s values are America’s values and that includes providing essential protections that include everyone, including LGBTQ people. If you already cosponsor this bill, thank you. If you do not, I urge you to consider doing so for the sake of families like mine.
Note: Please remember to specify your name, full address, and zip code. This allows your legislator to record your communication, and to respond to you in your important capacity as a constituent.
