Food and Clothing Drive for the Ruth Ellis Center
The Ruth Ellis Center is a youth social services agency that serves the needs of runaway, homeless and at-risk lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender, and questioning youth.” The REC is the only organization in the country that has a Residential program for LGBTQ youth in the foster care and juvenile justice system, and is mission specific to LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness. While the Center emphasizes serving LGBTQ youth who are often ostracized, shamed, and denied services by other agencies, no youth, regardless of gender identity and/or sexual orientation is turned away or denied services. The Center is there for young people in times of crisis and in times of celebration, but could not be there at all if it was not for all gifts and donations, large and small, that they receive from the community. The operations rely on gifts from people who may never use their services, but who realize that our services are needed by some of the most vulnerable youth in our society.
Our PFLAG Clinton Twp. Chapter is partnering with the PFLAG Plymouth-Canton Chapter to help provide some food and clothing for the Ruth Ellis Center. Sizes are all over the place for youth ages 14-30, all gender expression. Items they are in most need of:
